And if anyone prefers 1280 x 1024: [link]

Artwork designed in Sketchup & rendered in Kerkythia by :iconflaketom:

PLEASE direct artwork compliments his way.

If you wanna talk military history, tactics or about project concepts I'm all ears! :salute:

*UPDATE: Added dramatic lighting, and some 'chromatic aberration' for more dynamic composition. Plus other little fidgetty retouches.

Not really a great ambush position -facing into the morning light. But hey --maybe that's not glow from the sun... could be an explosion, or a flare, or burning... ah who'm I kiddin'!

------------------------------------

Wanna take a moment to comment on the uneven amount Axis vehicles vs. Allied that have been developed and posted lately; this is not to emphasize favoritism or narrative focus on one group vs. the other. The fact is that the form language of the Allied vehicles in the works so far (mostly Russian and US) tends to be more rounded, and thus more challenging to model, so we've been groovin' on the 'easy stuff' first. That is, the very angular and typically geometric Axis AFVs.

For those who give a hoot, much more Allied stuff will be forthcoming. ^^; Cheers!

--------------------------------

Also gotta ask; have any of you guys been playing R.U.S.E.? Just picked it up. I'm f*in awful at RTS, but I'm still diggin' it!

I can't say yet if OPDS will be eventually leaning towards this format, but it's obviously necessary and fun to explore.

It was kind of a mind-F' to see this thing in a naturalistic setting, with the snow clumped up around the stubby arthropod legs...Really points up the ambush role of this vehicle, to see it so perfectly camouflaged in its intended environment, and only heightens the eerie, surreal sense of a truly viable alternate history. Congrats to you both, this one is a resounding success!

Seemed like it needed some ambiance, and a little depth of field. Sort of a quick retouching solution. Not perfect...

Still nice, though! Came to my head, that you're free to retouch it in photoshop, only after I left. Was kinda all in hurry on friday. Will come back on your mails later, gotta catch up with some work.

Its beautiful.
...
Well, for an ambush it should have more camouflage... but then we can't enjoy full-view figure like this.. so its ok.

---

Question: do you make this for some role-play, Game or for your story?

Exactly. Maybe he's on the move then?

Next time we'll just make a snow camo blanket and say that the tank destroyer is under there.

Nice work, looks really good. (as usual)

I'd guess a flare from the angle and light level. But, I could be wrong.

I agree on it being a bad ambush position. I'd probably be a bit more to the left near the tree if I were going to be in that ambushing someone. Anything to break up that outline.

One thing you might consider as an optional equipment for your machines would be white tarps draped over branches to make them look more like snow drifts. There are no straight lines in nature, and any straight line that's visible would instantly draw the eye as a man made structure. Shortly thereafter it would draw fire. Just thinking out loud again.

Hope for his sake he's got tanks on the flanks.

And that they've got some heat going. Being locked in a steel box in freezing conditions is NOT a fun idea.

How about this... He just made a kill, and is now scurrying back to friendly lines...

I was also thinking how freezing cold it must be in there. Especially if it's been belly down w/ the engine turned off!
Any better than frying in the desert?

Which version of the jagdpanzer is this? I see some large diameter road wheels. Very nice looking.

It's a version w/ 10 arthropod-ish legs. Totally fictional.
Those round jawns ain't wheels, they're fittings for the 'hip' joints.

The light hitting over the hill is really good. Like a Morning Sun rise in a snowy field.

I saw R.U.S.E. advertised on Steam.

I think it's a pretty neat looking game. What's it like?

It's been a loooong time since I played any RTS, so I can't do a fair job of comparing to others, but as a manic WWII buff it definitely tickles.
The main campaign follows the career of General Sheridan, who comes off as slightly douchey in otherwise decent cutscenes.
For the most part, you follow real actions and battles in WWII, against the battle groups that were actually there. So I'm also enjoying the history bit, even if its slightly twisted to accommodate your style of play.

A little scared to go online and get chewed up. Since even the AI can still wreck me on an easy setting, in the custom SIMS.

Well, if I were in your shoes, what I'd do is go online and set up a "First Time Player" game. Assuming they allow you to name your games. And that way you can maybe get a veteran who likes to teach people help you. That's how I learned to play most games. You can't really learn from the computer, because even if you watch replays and stuff, those strategies don't work on most people, or are completely ineffective for humans to use because each of our units don't think on their own.

Lol. Well, most people from the RTS genre will probably use their keyboards to communicate anyway. I don't think I've ever seen an RTS that used mic before.

I'm a console dude -so most times I play online, I can hear other folks chattin' away on their headsets.
Assume it would be the same deal w/ RUSE.

In most RTS games, on the PC, people type. That's from my experience. Starcraft, Warcraft, Sins of a Solar Empire, etc, all use typing to communicate.
