Completed casemate clan line up! :woohoo:
Fullview recommended.
All 3D models by Sketchup powerhaus and prolific collaborator:iconflaketom: he got on a roll, and kept rollin!
I did some retouching and added design elements, and such. You may recall the Hetzer, Hummel, and Jagdpanther from here: [link]
The other concepts were devised by Tom for OPDS.

Follow up to this: [link]

For those unfamiliar w/ WWII AFVs, these are all based on existing German vehicles (except for the StuH IV). Wheels and Tracks removed + Legs added.

I noticed that there's only tank destroyers and artillery as walkers

It's true. I don't like turreted multipeds as much. The ability to go "belly down" w/ the hull flat on the ground makes more sense tactically for destroyers. Also, most types of legs would interfere w/ gun traversal and target acquisition on a tank. But mostly, I just like the look of these better.

100% unfiltered opinions are what make the show great!

First time I watched, I was like who are these guys to complain about a Ferarri?! F*ck them!
But now I totally get it. Brutal honesty and not holding back anything are some key elements that help make the editorial monologues so brilliant.
They're all very accomplished journalists and television 'personalities' and the professionalism/experience shows
... except maybe when pranking and busting each other's chops. Then it's just hilarious. Feels like hanging out w/ friends.

I couldn't escape it either. It was so half-assed, and yet the concept was excellent. Gameplay was totally decent as well. Rather challenging. No room for mistakes.

Used to love having a drink and letting my mind wander while I played -conjuring up background narratives and detailed cinematic set pieces.
Originally, it was like a high-budget RoR anime in my head. But then I started to ask how would I would handle WWII mecha...

Still think the Ring of Red mechs are perfect. All they need is more detail (polygons) and textures. But they're all fundamentally brilliant. Very convincing.

yeah, towards the end you really had to blitz your enemies otherwise you'd be gangraped prison style. They should update it for the PS3, I've been waiting for a decent tank sim for a long time

Word. That's why I'm doing OPDS. It's basically a manifesto for what the next console tactical RPG should be.

Did you ever try RUSE? That had some heavy armor action...

They look amazing, worrying is that they look unstoppable with their mobility and all-terain capabilities. It's fun to see the Sturmtiger or Hummel on legs. Maybe rise the turrets up a little bit so they can turn more freely, but that's probably unnecessary.

What I like about these multi-ped conversions is that they have a fair share of inherent weaknesses. No better or worse than a conventional tank, but rather more tailored to a specific tactical role. I don't imagine mechs or walking tank destroyers or traditional tracked vehicles canceling each other out... like rock, paper, scissors. Superiority is very dependent on tactical usage.

For whatever reason, I don't like the idea of turreted vehicles w/ legs. So all of these vehicles are in that casemate hull family, which I feel benefits most from a multiped conversion. Maybe it's simply aesthetics. For example, you can't improve the design of a shark; it's already perfect. I feel the same way about a Tiger tank.

Right I see that now. Thought they had turrets, but fixed barrels make the legs more than okay.

In my estimation, the legs can also help give their guns better angles of elevation and depression.

Absolutely, the tank could push the front or back up way further and even shoot at a rooftop of a several stories high building or fire into a canal at closest range.

Exactly. And it would be more effective at either defending an elevated position, as on a hillside, or attempting to attack one.
So for both mountainous terrain, and urban fighting the utility is much improved.

Also they can dodge those pesky Panzershreks or Bazookas by sidestepping.

Good call! Didn't think of that...
Wow, yeah... sidestepping would be a huge advantage in a tank duel!
Several multiped tank destroyers working together would also be able to encircle an opposing force while keeping their strongest frontal armor facing the enemy.
