When Axis forces overtook the Škoda factories of Czechoslovakia, they did more than simply continue and expand the production of the LT vs. 38 tank program; they flooded the design staff with experts well versed in the construction of German Pzfs (panzer zu fuss = walking armor), and used all indigenous resources to create a new light mech based on the newly designated Panzer 38t.

The resulting Pzf-38t was an important mech for Axis powers in the early war years, and helped to buff out the ranks of German-made Pzfs, as production in the Fatherland struggled to meet the High Command's soaring standards. Many a future panzer Ace would cut their teeth at the helm of a Pzf-38t.

This was quite literally the case for the young Otto Carius, a future decorated Pzf-VI Hagen Commander. Carius lost several of his front teeth due to the riveted construction of the Skoda panzers; those rivets had a tendency to ricochet severely inside the crew cabin when the vehicles were struck by enemy shells.

Nevertheless, the Pzf-38t was considered a reliable and versatile weapons platform, with good mobility, and was generally well liked by its crews. As the war progressed, and bigger tougher Pzfs (with double the weapon weight limit) became available, the 38ts were gradually phased out of frontline service, and shifted towards training and policing actions.

Eventually, as the 3rd Reich spiraled towards collapse, partisan forces within Czechoslovakia would come to appreciate the Pzf-38t's enduring qualities as well.
